Installing CouchDB 1.0.1 on Ubuntu 10.04 (Desktop and Server Edition)

Hi all, Here's some simple ans easy way to install CouchDB 1.0.1 on Ubuntu Desktop and Server Edition

Let's start with the desktop edition:

Here's are the steps:

  1. Open up your terminal
  2. Run : sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntuone/stable. This should help install the required key.
  3. Run sudo apt-get update
  4. Run sudo apt-get upgrade

You should be done by now. Navigate to http://localhost:5984/ and you should see the CouchDB version 1.0.1

  1. ssh into your server
  2. Run : sudo apt-get install python-software-properties. This is because add-get-repository is not installed by default.
  3. Run sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntuone/stable. This should add the key.
  4. Run sudo apt-get update
  5. Run sudo apt-get upgrade
  6. Restart server
  7. ssh into your server again
  8. cd to /etc/couchdb/
  9. Edit local.ini file by running sudo vim local.ini
  10. Uncomment port and change the IP address to 0.0.0.0. This will allow you to gain remote access.
  11. Restart CouchDB by running sudo services couchdb restart. This should restart CouchDB

You should be done by now. Now navigate to your IP address, for example: http://XXX.XXX.XX.XXX:5984/_utils and you should see that CouchDB is now version 1.0.1
